John and I have a lovely house in Mousehole, Cornwall which we have decided to let out to friends and friends of friends.

Mousehole is a lovely harbour village, about 3 miles from Penzance.
It has a bus service which runs every half hour to Penzance throughout the day and night, finishing at about 11.30pm.

The accommodation is set out over three floors.

Ground floor - Shower room, Large well equipped Kitchen/Diner with Washing Machine and Tumble Dryer.
Middle Floor - Large, bright through lounge (double sofa bed at one end) with log burner. TV and DVD player. Telephone for local calls. Games, dvd's and books.
Top Floor - Box room with good sized bunk beds, bedroom with two good sized single beds, double room with double bed. Bathroom with bath and hand held shower.

CORNWALL

If you like walking, sailing, surfing, shopping, gardens, beaches, stately homes........ you name it and Cornwall has it!

From Penzance you can even book a helicopter flight and transport yourselves over to the Scilly Isles - it only takes 20mins and you're in a different world.

A 15 minute car journey and you're in St Ives where you can shop, visit the Tate Gallery, relax on the beach or take a boat trip on a traditional Cornish Lugger.

15 minutes in the car in the opposite direction takes you to Porthcurno with its beautiful beach and spectacular outdoor theatre, The Minack.

If you prefer to travel by train, visit First Great Western for some fantastic cheap tickets to Penzance. Getting around by public transport is easy from Mousehole and you won't miss a thing.

If you decide to walk the Cornish Coastal Path you couldnt be in a better starting position than Mousehole. From Mousehole you could plan a walk to Marazion and St Michaels Mount (5.4 miles), Porthcurno (9.5 miles) or, if you're a serious walker, Sennen Cove (16 miles). You might even see some basking sharks on the way!

Mousehole is reknown for its beauty and with the house just a few yards from the harbour you really couldn't be in a better position to appreciate all Mousehole has to offer. With its quaint shops and galleries, outstanding restuarants and The Ship Inn public house, serving Cornish ale, 2 minutes from the house, there's something for everyone.

Mousehole maritime festival
If you’re planning a trip to Cornwall, try to take-in the biennial 'Sea Salts & Sail' festival (next in 2012), which is open to traditional boats such as West Cornwall Luggers, Gaffers, Crabbers, and Cornish pilot gigs - it’s a beautiful sight. This Mousehole festival also includes demonstrations by local seafood chefs, as well as crab pot making, wood-carving, knot tying, net mending, and numerous craft stalls.

CHRISTMAS IN MOUSEHOLE
At Christmas the whole place is illuminated and hundreds of people visit Mousehole from all over Cornwall to take in the magical atmosphere. Tom Bawcock's Eve is celebrated on December 23rd each year to celebrate the ending of a famine in the 16th Century. The village was near starvation one winter on 23rd December, as continued storms had stopped anyone from going out fishing (the year is never specified.) There are several versions of what then happened. One has a fishermen, Tom Bawcock (a widower) brave a storm at sea to go out fishing and bring back enough fish for everyone, either the same day or the next day, the 24th. He talked his crew into going out with him, and took his cat as well and the cat "calmed the sea" (sic.) The cat's name was "Mowzer." Other versions say that Tom and his crew acted upon a lull in the weather.

Reputedly, Tom caught 7 different kinds of fish (not just pilchards, as are used in the famous pie.) The landlady of the Ship Inn pub, right on the harbour, made a Stargazey pie from some of the fish.

Stargazey Pie is still served on the night before Christmas Eve at the Ship Inn pub.

The book 'The Mousehole Cat' is based on this legend.

(Prices are at least a third cheaper than comparable holiday rental properties in Mousehole.
We keep the rental lower by asking anyone who rents the cottage to leave it immaculate for the next visitors and to bring own bed linen and towels. Pillows and duvets are provided.)
